Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Back Bay Laundromat (80)

On Tuesday evening, May 31st, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire at Back Bay Laundromat off Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to be a dryer fire with fire inside the interior walls.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency units from Millsboro and Lewes fire companies and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad as well as the Sussex County Paramedics were on location.

Emergency response crew assignments included access to the interior walls to identify fire extension.  It was identified that the dryer fire was caused by excessive lint within area behind the dryers.  Ventilation and clean up was also pursued prior to leaving the facility.  Engine 80-3 initially accessed the nearest hydrant.

All units were authorized to return to quarters after the evaluation and suppression efforts were completed.
