Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

Location: Streets Rd and John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

 

On Monday, May 23rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident involving entrapment and possible vehicle fire.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, incident mitigation and assistance with patient stabilization if needed.  Initial arriving first responders verified negative occupant entrapment and no vehicle fire prevailed.  The avaiation unit was not needed and cancelled while resonding. 

It appears that a Jeep Renegade was traveling on John J. Williams Highway and left the roadway striking numerous items including but not limited to a telephone utility box, utility pole, et. al., before stopping near a group of trees.  One occupant was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close this segment of John J. Williams Highway between Rosedale and Warwick roads.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
