One of her neighbors – joining a search begun Wednesday night and continued Thanksgiving morning – discovered the body of 68-year-old Mary “Lorraine” Lappa of Teal Drive in the Creeks End development northeast of Millsboro, Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier said. She was found in tributary waters of Rehoboth Bay near her home, Fournier said, adding that foul play is not suspected. Lappa was supposed to leave during the day Wednesday for New Castle County, to join family members for Thanksgiving, Fournier said. But when neighbors went to her home about 5 p.m. Wednesday to turn on some lights, he said, they found her purse with her car keys and cell phone still inside the house as well as the car still in the driveway, but Ms. Lappa was nowhere to be found.” The neighbors contacted her relatives in the Wilmington area, learned she was overdue to arrive there and immediately notified state police, Fournier said. A massive search was mounted that night and state police issued a “Gold Alert” to media seeking public tips to find the missing woman. State troopers, K9 teams and a state police helicopter – assisted by members of the Indian River Fire Company – combed the area well into the night. The search resumed Thursday morning, along with other efforts to find her. About 10:30 a.m, a reverse 911 call was placed to residents in the area of her home and information was posted on the Delaware State Police Newsroom Facebook page asking to public to be on the lookout for Lappa, citing concern for her welfare. About 11:40 a.m. Thursday, a neighbor of Lappa’s who joined the search party spotted her body in the waterway near their development, Fournier said. Her body was recovered by crews from Indian River Fire Company and transported by state medical examiner’s staff to the Division of Forensic Science for autopsy. The investigation of her death is continuing, Fournier said. (2) WBOC TV – www.wboc.com http://www.wboc.com/story/27496681/missing-millsboro-woman-found-dead
