On Thursday afternoon April 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a brush (vegetation) fire, on Boat House Lane in the White House Beach development.

The initial report advised of a small area of leaves and pine needles on fire with exposures to a residence. Updated information advised the fire had been extinguished and was smoldering.

On the arrival of Brush 80-0, good samaritans were using a garden hose on the 20 x 20 area. Firefighters saturated the area with water and Class A foam.

Quick actions by residents and park employees avoided a potential disaster for the nearby residential structure.

Engine 80-3 was returned while responding to the incident.

Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic until the incident was cleared.

It is suspected the fire started due to an improperly disposed of cigarette by a passerby.
