Nature: Structure Fire
Address: 32351 Hersel Davis Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966
On Tuesday afternoon, April 19th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Millsboro (83), and Dagsboro (73) fire departments were alerted to a structure fire on Hersel Davis Road near Oak Orchard. Additional mutual aid response companies were alerted to offer assistance or backfill impacted fire districts.
Emergency response crews were assigned to initiate fire suppression activities in the two-story residential structure which included establishment of manpower pool, laddering the structure, interior and exterior suppression and ventilation efforts, and water shuttle operations. A specific request for tanker response was requested from neighboring companies.
It appears that the unoccupied, two-story residential structure was fully involved with active fire showing upon arrival of emergency response units from Indian River. Chief 80-15 (Hayden Klingler) provided an immediate update of the fire condition upon his arrival and requested tanker assistance from nearby companies. Tanker 80 was requested to initiate fire suppression lines for an immediate attack pending arrival of additional resources from next due apparatus. A water supply operation was coordinated and additional crews were assigned to continue suppression activities, open and ventilate the structure as well as accessing interior wall cavities to fully expose and suppress the fire. Ladder 83 was utilized to access and ventilate the roof area of the structure while other firefighters continued their suppression assignments.
The following mutual aid companies were impacted by this incident for EMS resources: Mid Sussex Rescue Squad (91), and Sussex County Paramedics, as well as other fire company services from Frankford (76), Gumboro (79), Milton (85), and Memorial (89).
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access activities for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Fire Marsha is investigating.
