Nature: Smoke Investigation / Fire Nature Unknow

Dispatch Location: White Marlin Court, Pelican Court

Address:  32087 Holly Lake Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday, April 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a smoke investigation while units were clearing an earlier automatic fire alarm (AFA) incident in the Stonewater Creek development off Indian Mission Road.  Emergency response units could identify a heavy black column of smoke in the area and responded to Holly Lake Road to investigate.  The Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted to respond to the area as well.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines 80-1 and 80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were able to locate the area of concern off Holly Lake to what is known as the Holly Lake Maintenance Compound and found an area of heavy brush, tree, and other debris.  Units were utilized to shuttle water back into the Compound area via access roads.  Lewes’ apparatus coordinated a water supply operation.  All assignments included fire suppression and saturation of the designated area as well as utilizing backhoes and tractors to separate and open the wood and debris areas.

It appears that brush, wood, and debris in the area caught fire causing a smoke investigation complaint in the area.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Officers were requested to respond to the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control for the duration of the incident.
