Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Unit 67

Address:  30895 Crepe Myrtle Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday, October 20th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire at Unit #67 – Gull Point Townhomes. It was reported that the homeowner heard an explosion and saw fire within or near her fireplace.

Emergency response units from Indian River include Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate incident mitigation and evaluation for extension. It was identified by responding personnel that the flames had been knocked down.

It appears that the exterior vents of the fire place caught fire charring the exterior of the residential structure and impacting the soffit and eaves areas of the structure.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating.
