Friday October, 17 2014 Nature: Fire Prevention Activities @ Long Neck Elementary School Friendly Firefighters & Friends… The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in conjunction with the Delaware State Fire School continues to promote fire prevention at the Long Neck Elementary School by offering educational and recreational fire prevention activities for the students during the fire prevention recognition period. These activities include various fire prevention awareness techniques, tour of a fire truck, review of a first aid station, and actively participates in simulated fire suppression tactics, simulated 9-1-1 telephone calls; and grade level specific fire prevention measures including but not limited to reducing the students’ fear of the unknown so they will be more likely to rescued if needed. Today, the 5th graders at Long Neck Elementary received tours of the Engine 80-3, equpment and tool familiarization, handling and operating a hose line, visited a first aid station, and had the chance to meet a "friendly fire fighter." The overall intent was to introduce students to firefighters and their equipment in order to enhance awareness, as well as brainstorming the skills and characteristics that firefighters should possess. Illustrated below are various photographs of these activities. |
