Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: John J Williams Hwy and Gull Point Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday, March 18^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident involving a dump truck becoming entangled in overhead electrical wiring. 

For the second straight day on John J. Williams Highway, various large trucks have become entangled in low hanging wires causing traffic hazards.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included debris recovery, traffic control and incident mitigation by notifying the respective utility service providers.

It appears that a dump truck was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and become entangled in low hanging overhead wires causing damage (breakage) to three separate utility poles requiring roadway closure for the duration of the incident.  The respective utility service provider was notified and responded with replacement utility poles and personnel to perform said corrective action.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of roadway and suggestive detour routing.

Delmarva Power and respective utility companies are pursuing corrective action.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
