Nature: Structure Fire
Location: 4 Oyster Rd., Paradise Cove, Long Neck, DE 19966
On Tuesday afternoon, March 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a shed fire on Oyster Road in Paradise Cove off Long Neck Road. Within minutes of the initial dispatch, the incident was upgraded to a structure fire with additional mutual aid response from Lewes (82), Millsboro (82) and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. Standby cover-up assignments for Indian River were provided by Rehoboth Beach (86) at the Long Neck facility and Dagsboro (73) at the Oak Orchard facility.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-1, #80-3 and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included establishment of fire suppression activities for the first arriving apparatus, establish a water supply, activate exposure protection procedures, establish a manpower pool and pursue overall incident mitigation activities. Additional responding apparatus assisted with water supply concerns as well as accessing the Oyster Road location via Harbor Road and Clam Road to fully accentuate fire suppression activities from multiple sides of the structure.
Initial arriving emergency response units found a residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing and immediately initiated fire suppression activities.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.
There were not reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
