Nature: Citizen Assist – Child Locked in an Automobile

On Monday, March 7^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for citizen assist incident with a child locked in an automobile at the Pep Up Gas Station on John J. Williams Highway.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments were to assist access the vehicle free the occupant that was locked inside the vehicle.

It was identified that a child was locked inside a vehicle at the respective location.  The child was approximately 1½ years of age, the vehicle was not running, and there was a language barrier.  It was determined that the vehicle was located at this facility for approximately 2 hours before assistance was requested.  Access was gained to the interior of the vehicle and all units were permitted to return to their respective quarters.
