Friday July, 11 2014 @ 17:55 Nature: Vehicle Accident Serious Location: Indian Mission Rd & Beaver Dam Rd., Harbeson, DE 19951 On Friday afternoon, July 11th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road at the intersection of Beaver Dam Road. It was reported to be a serious incident involving two vehicles with occupant entrapment. Emergency response units included Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility; Rescue 80 and Chief 80 from the Oak Orchard area; the Delaware State Fire Police; the Sussex County Paramedics; and the Delaware State Police. Aviation units from LifeNet were initially dispatched based upon the activity reports. Emergency response crew assignments were to assist with patient stabilization; provide vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery; coordinate traffic control assistance; and overall scene mitigation. It appears that a customized Ford Econoline van pulling an enclosed trailer was traveling north on Indian Mission Road and a while BMW sedan was traveling west on Beaver Dam Road. The BMW failed to remain stopped at the intersection and was struck by the van. The van continued to travel north into a wooded area just off of the impact site. The BMW was stopped in the center of the intersection. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident. Traffic patterns were altered at the following intersections: Indian Mission Road at Holly Mount Road; Holly Mount Road at Beaver Dam Road; and Indian Mission Road at Beaver Dam Road. It appears that all occupants refused any additional medical attention. All medical service providers were able to obtain patient refusals whiling cancelling any aviation response. The Delaware State Police are investigating. |
