Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 28524 Ferndale Rd., Victoria’s Landing, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday, January 19^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire on Ferndale Road in the Victoria’s Landing development. Additional alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. Indian River’s Fire Chief was in the area and responded to the incident location providing a size up report with nothing showing from the exterior of the structure. Immediately thereafter, it was identified as a working alarm with an active kitchen fire on the second floor of the residential structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80, Rescue 80, and Chief 80-15 responded from the Oak Orchard area with Engine #80-3 and Brush #80-00 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included establishing a fire suppression attack line to the interior of the residential structure, setting up the ladder, accessing a water supply from the hydrant in front of the structural complex with Engine 80-3 supply Tower 80, initiated ventilation and overhaul tactics. Ladder 83 also set up to access the multi-residential roof area as well.  Lewes and Millsboro personnel reported to the manpower pool at the front of the residential structure awaiting specific assignments.

The residential unit suffered significant interior fire and water damage on the second floor resulting from an active kitchen fire. Tower 80 crew initiated the fire suppression attack line while in the process of setting up the tower for access to roofing area. Engine 80-3 assisted with water supply establishment and fire suppression activities.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries associated with the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
