Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

Location: Long Neck Rd and John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday morning, January 18^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams at the intersection of Long Neck Road & Indian Mission Road.  It was reported to be a head-on collision with entrapment.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper 2) and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Responding units were advised that there was no occupant entrapment and the aviation unit was cancelled.  EMS units were transporting to nearby hospital facilities.

Emergency response crew assignments included fluid and debris clean-up, traffic control with intersection access closed for most traffic patterns, incident mitigation as well assistance with needed for the duration of the incident.

It appears that a Nissan Maxima and Chevrolet Equinox collided at the intersection causing significant damage to both vehicles and blocking most the traffic travel lanes.  The occupants of the vehicles were enroute to medical facilities upon arrival of fire company apparatus.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
