On Friday morning, June 6th, the Indian River (80) and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire companies were alerted to assist Bethany Beach (70) Fire Company with a priority water rescue incident. It was reported that a jet ski has landed on a sandbar and CPR was being performed.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush #80-0 and 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units responded to the Massey’s landing facility for launch and response. It was reported that 80 Marine 2 was cancelled while in route to the incident.

Dagsboro man dies after jet ski runs aground in Indian River inlet

LEWES (June 6, 2014) – Delaware Natural Resources Police, Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement is investigating an accident in the Indian River Inlet in which a 55-year-old Dagsboro man died Friday after trying to free his jet ski which had run aground on a sandbar.

Fish & Wildlife Enforcement agents responded to a report around noon that a personal watercraft operated by Randolph White had been grounded on a sandbar in the inlet. He was later transported by Bethany Beach Fire Department rescue jet ski to shore, and then by ambulance to Beebe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1 p.m.

 Jun 06, 2014 -- 11:55am UPDATE (12:30 p.m.) -- Man and woman were out Jet-Skiing. One of their Jet-Skis became stuck on a sandbar and they attempted to push it free. Man complained of chest pain and later collapsed on sandbar. This is near South Shore Drive on the bayside, southwest of the Indian River Inlet. This is not believed to have been a traumatic injury or drowning. He has been taken to Beebe Hospital.

Original Post (11:50 a.m.) --- Bethany, Indian River, and Rehoboth Beach fire companies along with Sussex County EMS, DNREC and Coast Guard are responding to a water rescue on the south side of the Indian River Inlet.

One person from a Jet-Ski is reported in distress on a sandbar at the end of South Shore Drive on the bay side.
