Nature: Multi Residential Structure Fire

Location: 32975 Shoppes At Long Neck Blvd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday afternoon, December 29^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a multi residential structure fire at the Shoppes of Long Neck Blvd.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Delaware State Fire Marshall, the utility service provides – Delaware Electric Cooperative and others.  First arriving emergency response units identified smoke showing and an explosion from within the structure with fire through the roof.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80, Tanker 80, Rescue 80 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included Engine #80-3 tapping the hydrant upon entering the apartment complex with 5” LDH and initiated fire suppression attack lines, Tower 80 requested to set-up for access to the roof, Tanker 80 requested to supply Tower for water supply with other responding units providing resources and manpower to the front of the structure.  Specific requests included ladders to the rear of the structure and roof ventilation.  The interior residential sprinklers were activated and assisted with fire suppression efforts.  The incident was placed under control in approximately 19 minutes from time of dispatch.

During the apparatus arrival and set-up phase of the incident numerous residents had to relocate vehicles to enhance apparatus access to the structure.  The residential structure did sustain significant fire and water damage as a result of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and limited scene access for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware Electric Cooperative was utilized to disconnect the electrical service to the structure.

The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance with the displaced families which did include multiple children and adults.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
