Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 76 Creek Dr., Winding Creek Village, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday evening, December 15^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for structure fire on Creek Drive in the Winding Creek development off Banks Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included interior evaluation and ventilation as well as overall incident mitigation. Emergency response units were held to those already on scene with all others authorized to return to quarters

It appears the homeowners, were cooking in the microwave when the contents caught fire, they removed the contents and threw in a nearby cabinetry trash container which caught fire, filling the house with smoke and charring some cabinetry.  The homeowner then utilized a fire extinguisher to suppression the fire prior to arrival of emergency response personnel. All occupants were out of the residence upon arrival of fire apparatus.

The Delaware Stare Fire Police assistance with traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The homeowner was informed that professional remediation services may be needed to eradicate the smoke odor, smell, soot, and remnants from the fire extinguisher.
