Nature: House Fire – Standby Assistance – Wilmington Manor

Location: Talbot Drive – Chelsea Estates

On Saturday, December 11, 2021, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided a designated standby crew to permit the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company to coordinate and conduct their Annual Firefighter Appreciation Banquet to recognize their own.  These assignments included a fully staffed aerial (tower) truck and rescue assignment with personnel from Indian River, a fully staffed ambulance crew from Delaware City.

One of the incident response alerts included an automatic fire alarm incident on McCullough Drive where Wilmington Manor was responding and then diverted to a higher priority call.  The diversion was to a structure fire on Talbot Drive in the Chelsea Estates development.

The responding fire apparatus from Wilmington Manor were the arriving units on scene with heavy fire from the rear of the residential structure.

The first responder assignments included fire suppression, interior search, water supply, ladder access to the roof, ventilation, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation.  The responding mutual aid companies included Christiana, Five Points, Holloway Terrace, Delaware Air National Guard fire suppression unit, Newport, Minquadale, Good will, and New Castle fire companies.  The EMS crews were Delaware City and the New Castle County Paramedics.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
