Nature: Fire Nature Unknown

Location: 29267 Honeysuckle Knoll, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday morning, December 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a fire nature unknown in the vicinity Honeysuckle Knoll off Layton Davis Road.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were requested to suppress and extinguish the fire and utilized rakes and hooks to separate the debris.

Initial responding units could see the smoke from John J. Williams Highway and Layton Davis Road but when approaching the area of Honeysuckle Knoll could not immediately identify the location during the initial drive thru.  A second attempt to locate the incident was successful.

It appears that the resident attempted to suppress the fire by placing a tarp over the debris and relocating the cushion materials behind a utility shed to minimize the smoke conditions.  Upon gaining access to the rear of the structure, it was evident that a large accumulation of trash and debris was ignited to eradicate the conditions.  A fire suppression line with foam was activated to fully suppress and saturate the areas of the fire and behind the utility storage structure.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control were notified and requested to respond to the incident location.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control during the incident.

The DNREC Officers are investigating.
