Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: John J Williams Hwy and Plaza Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

ON Saturday evening, November 13, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Plaza Drive.  Additional ancillary alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2, and the Sussex County Paramedics as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 and #80-3 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included incident evaluation and monitoring because of the down utility wires lying on the vehicle, notification of the primary electric service provided requesting a priority response, traffic control, establishment of a landing zoning in the Plaza Shopping Center parking lot, traffic control with limited traffic patterns for the duration of the incident, fluid and debris recovery after arrival of the utility company, patient stabilization if needed.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit landed in the Plaza Shopping Center pending determination of need.  Upon extrication of the vehicle’s occupant the aviation was cancelled.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
