Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 25961 South Cedar St Bay City, DE 19966

On Friday October 29th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a structure fire on South Cedar Street in Bay City off Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be audible alarms sounding with smoke coming from the structure with possible animals inside but no people at the residential structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Fire Marshall, and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crew assignments included location of the initial sources, evaluate the crawl space, disconnect the utility services, ventilation, as well as overall incident mitigation.  Formation of a manpower pool with available resources to be assigned.

It appears that the double wide manufactured home was filled with a smoke condition which required ventilation and extrication of the smoke, evaluation and identification of the sources, removal of the family pet that was reported trapped inside and overall evaluation.

First responder crews performed an initial 360 evaluation, advanced an 1¾” fire suppression line and proceed to mitigation the incident.  Other ancillary concerns associated with this incident was the pending nor'easter storm that caused tidal flooding which were endured during the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
