Indian River’s Fire Prevention Outreach Activity Information
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company Fire Prevention Community Outreach Efforts wishes to publish its activity report for the period of January thru September 2021 to help increase awareness in our community about the life-saving benefits of smoke alarms.
This Fire Prevention Community Outreach Effort has shared and distributed free fire prevention and fire safety information via door-to-door campaigns, community meetings, homeowner’s association meeting, church group meetings, attending public events, and neighborhood canvasing efforts. Since January 2021, Indian River coordinated efforts to enhance awareness that smoke detectors are needed and to teach our community about the importance of fire safety and having an escape plan is critical. Indian River has:
-
devoted approximately 351.0 volunteer hours to accomplish these tasks.
-
distributed and installed 170 smoke detectors - see chart.
-
discussed the importance of practicing fire safety with 1,405 adults and 1,752 children.
Indian River has collaborated with the American Red Cross and other private and corporate entities to develop a cohesive campaign to include smoke detector distribution, smoke detector installation, and discuss the importance of a fire escape plan. Many corporate and community partners have assisted with the acquisition of smoke detectors thus far.
October is Fire Prevention Month! The goal of Fire Prevention Month is to raise awareness about fire safety and help ensure every home and family is prepared in the event of an emergency. The first full week of October is Fire Prevention Week in many public schools in Delaware and much emphasis is placed on grade specific educational and recreational programs in order the enhance fire prevention and fire safety amongst young children.
