On Wednesday morning, March 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to provide assistance to the Lewes Fire Department during a working structure on Willow Creek.

Emergency response units from Indian River were directed to provide a cover up assignment at Lewes Station 1. Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility handled the incident response.

Emergency response crews assisted Lewes with hose cleaning and restoration of returning apparatus back into service.

Firefighters respond to blaze near Lewes

Dozens of firefighters from three departments with more than 12 pieces of equipment answered an alarm around 11 a.m. March 12 for a fire north of Lewes. Thick, black billowing smoke could be seen from miles away.

The fire damaged two garages near a home in the 16000 block of Willow Creek Road. Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Harry Miller said the accidental blaze was caused when embers from an outside fire ignited the first garage. The fire spread to a second garage before firefighters had it under control. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

The alarm was answered by the Lewes Fire Department with assistance from Milton and Rehoboth Beach. No injuries were reported.

Accidental Fire Burns Two Garages In Lewes

LEWES, Del. - An accidental fire in Lewes, reportedly caused $50,000 in damages to two garages.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire started just before 11:00 AM at a building on Willow Creek Road. The Lewes Fire Department, with assistance from Milton and Rehoboth Beach Fire Companies put out the flames. No injuries were reported.

An investigation reportedly ruled the fire accidental, and was caused after embers from an outside fire ignited the first garage, which then quickly spread to a second garage before the fire was under control.

Officials say damages are estimated at $50,000.
