Nature: Wires Down/Arcing

Location: Long Neck Rd and Cove Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Friday morning, October 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a wires down incident on Long Neck Road near Cove Drive.  It was reported to wires across the roadway.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control and incident mitigation activities.

It appears that a utility pole was snapped in half resulting from a hit-and-run vehicle accident disrupting the utility services to nearby locations and falling across the roadway.  This situation caused the closing of Long Neck Road for approximately two (2) hours awaiting arrival of the utility service provider to remove the utility wires and commence with full mitigation activities.

An unsuspecting motorist did traverse over the utility wirings, prior to arrival of emergency responders, causing additional damage to the electrical service as well as extensive damage to their personal vehicle.

Other motorists traversed through the golf cart path accessing the Neighborhood Store parcel with one motorist unknowingly tearing their rear bumper off their vehicle.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
