On Monday, March 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams in the vicinity of Holly Lake. It was reported to be a single vehicle incident off the roadway into nearby Hopkins Prongs which feeds into Herring Creek Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response units were cancelled based upon emergency response personnel on-scene who provided status updates regarding the incident. It appears that a silver BMW was traveling on John J. Williams Highway and lost control on the ice and snow covered roadway, sliding off the roadway, striking a tree, over the edge of the roadway shoulder and into a nearby stream. The operator of the vehicle was able to self-extricate. It was with the assistance of a good samatarian that the operator of the BMW got out of the vehicle prior to arrival of emergency response personnel. The local emergency medical services provider tendered pre-hospital emergency care. The Delaware State Police are investigating.
