Story

Lewes Fire Department Hosts Residential / Structural Firefighting Training

Firefighters with the Lewes Fire Department hosted a series of Residential / Structural Firefighting Training sessions and encouraged a number of volunteer fire companies throughout Delaware to participate. These training evolutions were identified and developed to hone firefighting knowledge, skills and abilities.

The training accommodated and developed collaborative relationships between the firefighting agencies, which included, but not limited to; Lewes (82), Rehoboth Beach (86), Roxana (90), Indian River (80), and Minquas (23) and was developed to focus on Engine Company Operations and incorporated a mix of both newer and seasoned firefighters.

This kind of controlled environment for firefighting allows the (firefighters) to enter and practice various fire suppression techniques, which include but not limited hose handling, enhanced nozzle operations, search and rescue operations, reading smoke conditions, ventilation operations, and many other activities. When these firefighters get to an actual emergency incident, they’ll be more aware of what’s going on and be able to identify signs and trigger points of actual fires.

The firefighters from Indian River that participated found the training evolutions very informative and beneficial.

Indian River wishes to acknowledge the Lewes Fire Department for hosting such an initiative.
