Indian River Receives AFG Grant for Operations & Safety Equipment

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that it has received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for firefighting operations and firefighter safety via enhanced communication devices. The grant proposal was accepted in May 2013; however, the actual funding was received yesterday and the radio communication devices are being programmed pending implementation into the fire company operations.

Over the next month, apparatus will be retro-fitted with the new radios and members will be trained on the new devices and they are anticipated to be placed in service prior to the end of the month. This grant funding possibility was through a Federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) that allowed our company to purchase these units. The total cost of this project is $164,286 with Indian River having to generate match funds of $15,079.

Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Information - The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

Over the last several years, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has reaped the benefits of the hard work and often overlooked commitment of our grant committee members.

Our Grant Chairman – Michael Eisenhauer has dedicated countless hours researching and writing grants, attending seminars, following up and completing tedious paperwork associated with grant proposals.

Michael’s hard-work and efforts are greatly appreciated.
