Fire Prevention Day at Rehoboth Bandstand Oct. 2

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company will host its Annual Fire Prevention Day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. All ages are welcome.

Guests can see the fire trucks, firefighters, personal watercraft and boats used for water rescues, police officers, EMTs and many more public servants who work hard every day to help keep individuals and families safe. Anyone interested in joining the fire company or another local company is encouraged to stop by and talk to a member at any fire company booth.

Service providers attending will include members of the U.S. Coast Guard; Delaware State Fire School (DSFS); Sussex EMS; Indian River, Lewes, Milton and Bethany Beach volunteer fire companies; DNREC Forestry Services; Fort Miles Museum; Rehoboth Beach Police Department; Delaware State Fire Marshals; and more.

“Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” is this year’s theme, which grew out of the increased attention received about alarm notifications being heard in the background sounds of people’s homes during remote learning and work. Recognizing the different sounds alarms make, and the action needed based on that sound, is critical to preventing injury and death from fire.

This year’s theme also pays particular attention to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and alert devices that meet the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing. These includes strobe lights, low-frequency alarms and bed/pillow shakers which activate at the sound of the alarm.
