On Friday morning, January 31st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a minor vehicle accident in front of Harris Teeter on John J. Williams Highway.

Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and the local emergency medical services provider.

Emergency response crew assignments included patient and vehicle stabilization, scene mitigation and traffic control measures during the incident.

While addressing the initial collision at this location, a second minor collision occurred.

Incident #1 - During the initial incident, a gray Honda CRX and a tan KIA collided causing minor front end damage to both vehicles. All vehicles were located on the shoulder of the roadway.

Incident #2 - During the second incident, a black Dodge Dakota and a white Ford Econoline van collided. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the Dodge struck the back of the Ford.

It appears that on vehicle occupant from each incident was transported to nearby medical for additional observations.

This section of the John J. Williams Highway was closed for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
