Get Ready for Fire Prevention!

Every October is Fire Prevention Month and its just around the corner!

Our Fire Prevention Co-chairs at Indian River – Robert Marmor and Roxanne Bammer have been diligently planning for these upcoming events and activities which include community outreach events, educational fire safety & prevention events, businesses solicitations, as well as interactions with organizations and residential households across our fire district to participate with the following endeavors.

  • Fire Prevention Store Displays with Local Commercial Partners

Harry’s Hardware on Long Neck has created a centralized display for fire prevention materials – smoke detectors, CO detectors, fire extinguishers, red light bulbs, and much more at an aisle end.  This effort is in collaboration with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in order to promote these worthwhile causes.

  • Light the Night Red Activities for Fallen Firefighters

We, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, ask you to please consider joining the effort to honor and reflect on the sacrifice of America’s fallen heroes by lighting up red your residential location, business, etc. during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend – September 26th thru October 3rd.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.

In 2017, the Foundation created Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to recognize the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since then, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters has expanded to include fire departments and families lighting their homes in red.

As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will again glow in respect from September 26 – October 3, 2021, to the fallen and their families.

If you would like to light your home in red for Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters, you can buy red bulbs at Harry’s Hardware on Long Neck Road.

  • Light the Night Red – Indian River Inlet Bridget – September 26th thru September 30th

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has contacted the Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) to solicit their assistance by lighting the landmark – Indian River Inlet Bridge in red for the period of September 26th thru September 30th and this request has been approved.

These events are scheduled in coordination with management associations; homeowner associations; business partners; etc.

  • Fire Prevention Activities for local schools, daycares, Boys & Girls Club, et. al.

These Community Initiatives are intended to highlight grade specific subject matters to highlight Fire Safety; Fire Prevention; numerous safety tips and activities including but not limited to: campfire, seasonal, and recreational topics; apparatus and vessel displays; recreational activities, and much more.

In closing, Indian River is excited about its upcoming preparation for Fire Prevention Month and believes this would be an exceptional opportunity to ameliorate our fire safety and fire prevention knowledge, skills, and abilities.
