Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: Baywoods on John J. Williams Highway

Address: 32385 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday evening, January 23rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire in the vicinity of Baywood Greens on John J. Williams Highway. It appears that older Cadillac convertible was on a flatbed tow truck when the vehicle caught fire.

Emergency response units included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engines #80-3 and #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included various efforts to suppression the vehicle fire and prevent its spread to the tow truck and other areas. Engine #80-1 initiated the 1¾” fire suppression lines while Engine #80-3 provided water resources and manpower assistance. Engine #80-5 provided manpower assistance as well as its vehicle extrication tools to gain access to various compartments.

The cause of the fire is pending determination and the Delaware State Police are investigating.

This section of John J. Williams Highway was closed for the duration of the incident.

Caddy Convertible on Tow Truck Catches Fire in Long Neck

Cadillac convertible being towed in Long Neck Thursday night catches fire.

Firemen from Indian River got the call around 9:30 p.m. for a vehicle fire near Baywood Greens on Route 24 at Long Neck Road; it appears the Caddy was on a flatbed tow truck when it caught fire.

The cause of the fire is pending determination and Delaware State Police are investigating.

NO injuries were reported in the fire.
