Nature: Inaugural Laura Madara Back to School Health Fair Commences

Location: Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company

On Saturday, August 28th, the Fire Prevention Cohort of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company attended the first annual “Laura Madara Back to School Health Fair” in Selbyville, Delaware.

This inaugural event is intended to honor the memory of Laura Madara who was instrumental in reaching out to the community and promoting safety and health initiatives.  Laura retired from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control as an Assistant Superintendent.  Laura was a member of the Selbyville (88) Vol. Fire Co. where she served as Fire Police and President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was involved with the

  • Culinary Judge for the 4H Club at the Delaware State Fair

  • Site Supervisor for WORCOA

  • Volunteer at the Senior Center in Ocean City

  • CPR Instructor for Safe Kids, Delaware

  • Fire Police Member of the Sussex County and the Delaware State Fire Police Association

  • Participant with Civil War reenactment

Indian River’s Fire Prevention exhibit highlighted numerous fire prevention and fire safety awareness initiatives in order to promote overall fire safety.
