On Wednesday, January 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to multiple automatic fire alarm (AFA) incidents based upon water flow activations as a result of the unseasonable cold weather within the Fairfield development off of Long Neck Road.

(1) Winthrop Court - Fairfield

The AFA incident was located on Winthrop Court.

Emergency response units included Ladder 80, 80 Incident Command, Engine #80-3 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the property management and utilities companies.

Emergency response crew assignments were to mitigate the alarm, identify and cease the water flow, and discontinue utilities to the structure.

This issue was created as the result of a broken pipe and/or sprinkler head in the attic area of the third floor ceiling area of the residential structure. There was partial ceiling collapse within the structure. Forcible entry was required in order access the building.

There was no displacement of homeowners or tenants based upon being a secondary residence.

(2) South Gloucester Circle - Fairfield

The AFA was located on South Gloucester Circle.

Emergency response units included Ladder 80, Engine #80-3 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the property management and utilities companies.

Emergency response crew assignments were to mitigate the alarm, identify and cease the water flow, and discontinue utilities to the structure.
