Nature: Vehicle Accident

On Tuesday, August 10th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the entrance to Harris Teeter. It was identified as a two vehicle collision with possibility of the person needing to be transported. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad as the local emergency medical service provider.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-11 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris stabilization, traffic control, assistance with patient stabilization where needed.
It appears that a black Mercedes Benz convertible sedan was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and a white Chevrolet Tahoe was travel west on John J. Williams Highway attempting to enter the Harris Teeter location and collided with the sedan. The Mercedes entered the grassy area and walking path causing fluid issue that needed mitigation. Utility 80-11 was traveling back from a previous medical emergency incident Pot Nets Bayside and came upon the incident alerting the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center. One person was transported for additional observations.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
