Nature: Vehicle Accident

On Friday afternoon, July 30^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway and Hollymount Road.  It was reported to be a two vehicle collision with one vehicle fleeing the incident location.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control with closure of the normal traffic patterns, fluid and debris recovery, vehicle stabilization, and overall incident mitigation.  An extended period of clean up was needed because a large quantity of construction type nails was thrown throughout the intersection.

It appears that a white BMW sedan and a construction type truck collided at the incident location leaving the BMW disabled and the other vehicle fleeing the incident location.   

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident with a great amount of disdain from the traveling motorist.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
