Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: Oak Orchard Rd and Schooner Dr River Village, DE 19966
On Saturday afternoon, July 24th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road and Schooner Drive, the entrance to River Village. It was reported to a single vehicle incident with occupant entrapment. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization if needed, traffic control, and vehicle stabilization, where needed. It was immediately identified by first responders on scene that there was not any entrapment. Everyone was out of the vehicle.
It appears that a black Mitsubishi Mirage was traveling on Oak Orchard Road attempting to enter Schooner Drive and ran into the stormwater management ditch on top of the culvert.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
