Location: 18th Blvd In The Peninsula

Address: 27270 18th Blvd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday evening, November 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm incident in the Marina Bay section of the Peninsula off of Bay Farm Road. The incident was reported via the alarm company.

Emergency response units included Ladder 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility; Chief 80-15 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility; as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

It was determined to be an automatic fire alarm situation based upon an active water flow indicator within the system. It was identified that a water pipe broke in the basement garage area was the cause for the water flow situation. The water flow was within the interior and exterior of the facility. Attempts to shut off the water flow at the pipe location were unsuccessful.

It is possible that the windy, cold conditions attributed to the un-insulated water pipe break as the pipes were located in the open garage area.

The alarm company was notified of the situation as well as the sprinkler company. The facility location was placed on officer’s call pending resolution and corrective action by the sprinkler company.

Once the water was shut-off all remaining units were allowed to return to their respective station.
