Sunday November, 24 2013 @ 11:01:55 Nature: Structure Fire – Assist Lewes (82) Address: 19084 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 On Sunday, November 24th, the Indian River (80) and Rehoboth Beach (86) volunteer fire companies were alerted to assist Lewes (82) Fire Department with a structure fire on John J. Williams Hwy. in the vicinity of Plantations Road. It was reported to be a kitchen fire with smoke throughout the residential structure and all occupants are reported to be out of the residence. Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response crews from Indian River were assigned to the manpower and to provide assistance where needed. Indian River was then re-directed to provide standby coverage for Lewes and Rehoboth Beach at Station #3 on John J. Williams Highway. Initial fire suppression assignments included fire suppression hose lines through the front door. It was identified that the source of the fire was the kitchen stove and limited to the kitchen; however, smoke was throughout the structure with positive pressure ventilation being utilized. The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating. The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close John J. Williams Highway and establish a detour via Plantation Road, Cedar Grove Road and Mulberry Knoll Road for the duration of the incident.
