Address: 27041 Mount Joy Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, November 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Millsboro (83) Fire Company with a reported woods fire. It was determined to be an improper burning of residential construction debris.

Emergency response crews from Millsboro Fire Company responded an identified a large debris field of residential construction materials that was improperly being burned. Millsboro’s Incident Command requested an engine company assist and manpower from Indian River.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignment were to mitigate the incident by picking through the debris and separating the piles while fully extinquishing the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the closure of Mount Joy Road between Hollymount Road and Lawson Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Officials were notified of the incident and responded directly to the incident location.
