On Saturday afternoon, June 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a citizen assist incident regarding a child locked inside an automobile located in the Shoppes at Long Neck Apartment Complex.

Emergency response units included Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility and Incident Command 80-10 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate attempts to successfully obtain access to the child via various wedge door tool kits.

It appears that the occupants of the vehicle removed the keys from the vehicle and placed them in a purse while leaving the purse in the vehicle.  The child was located in a right rear child safety seat and was actively playing with her personal iPad device.  After numerous unsuccessful attempts while waiting for professional locksmith, the safety of the child was becoming a concern therefore, forcible entry become the most viable option to gain access because the vehicle’s anti-theft system kept hampering the other progressive vehicle access attempts.

The child was removed from the vehicle and turned over to the parents.
