Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm Updated to Structure Fire
Location: 32981 Peninsula Esplanade Millsboro, DE 19966
On Friday morning, June 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm and upon arrival of initial first responder it was upgraded to a working commercial structure fire.
The upgraded alarm required the response from the Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire departments as well as the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, Inc.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included an initial 360 assessment which yielded an interior fire determination. Tower 80 positioned for set-up and Engine #80-3 position for hydrant access. Crews gained access and identified a heavy smoke condition and isolated the fire to the utility room involving a hot water heater. Crews from Indian River and Millsboro fire companies were utilized at the scene to perform an interior evaluation and positive pressure ventilation.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and limited scene access during the incident.
The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.
