Friday, October 18, 2013

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company continues to promote fire prevention at the Long Neck Elementary School and has re-scheduled the various fire prevention activities due to inclement weather last week. This year’s theme focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice as well as preventing kitchen fires.

On Friday, October 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company offered a field trip to the Delaware State Fire School Training Center in Georgetown to highlight educational and recreational fire prevention programs for the students at the Long Neck Elementary School. These activities include various fire prevention awareness techniques, tour of the fire house, tour of the Delaware State Fire School – Georgetown Campus, and actively participates in simulated fire suppression tactics, simulated 9-1-1 telephone calls; and grade level specific fire prevention awareness measures including but not limited to escaping the smoke house.

The Fire School Event included practicing fire drills for residential and school settings; fire truck equipment familiarization; firefighter personal protective equipment familiarization; electrical safety and hazards; exit drills and plans; as well as emergency medical services (first aid) and other techniques.

Over the entire fire prevention program, the Long Neck Students have been encountered significant educational initiatives to assist with their knowledge, skills and abilities when an unfortunate occurs.
