Construction Workers Rupture Gas Line

On Tuesday, October 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a gas leak incident at the Cedar Tree Medical Center on Long Neck Road. It was reported to be the result of construction workers installing a new fence and ruptured the gas lines.

Emergency response units included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response assignments included the complete evacuation of the commercial structure; secure a water supply source via nearby fire hydrants; and mitigate the leak situation by advancing an 1¾” fire suppression line. The leak was secured by the responding emergency response personnel pending arrival of propane company service personnel.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
