Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Sunday afternoon, October 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle collision on Long Neck Road in the vicinity of the sharp curve just south of the Pot Nets Bayside entrance. It was reported to be two vehicles with possible head-on collision.

Emergency response units included: Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police, and the local emergency medical services provider.

Emergency response crew assignments were to coordinate patient stabilization for primary EMS care; vehicle stabilization; scene mitigation with vehicle fluid and debris recovery; as well as traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.

It appears that gray Ford Escape was traveling south on Long Neck Road approaching the S-curve and did not successfully navigate the turn, striking a northbound Chrysler mini-van head-on causing injuries to the occupants of the vehicles as well as significant vehicle damage.

The occupants of the vehicles were transported to nearby medical facilities via ground transportation units for additional observation.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
