Friendly Firefighter Program @ Long Neck Elementary School

On Monday, October 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company commenced with its Annual Fire Prevention Program at Long Neck Elementary with a presentation to the entire second grade population regarding the “Friendly Firefighter.”

The teaching objectives for the program included lesson plans and activities to identify what to do in case of a fire.  These topics and activities included:  Stop, Drop and Roll; What to do in case of a fire in your home; Establish a family meeting place; and Not being scared of the firefighter if you see one.

These programs were developed via the National Fire Safety Council’s Friendly Firefighter program

The objective of program is designed to help develop an early awareness and understanding of the many ways the fire department protects and aids the community.  It helps children develop a healthy perspective of the local firefighter and encourages them to trust and respect them.
