Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Monday morning, October 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road at the entrance to the Shoppes at Long Neck. It was reported to be two vehicles with possibility of one vehicle fleeing the scene of the incident.

Emergency response units included Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Delaware State Fire Police, and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization; scene preservation; assist with patient assessment, if needed; debris and fluid mitigation; and coordinate traffic control for the duration of the incident.

It appears that a silver Toyota Corolla was traveling on Long Neck Road and was struck by a black pick-up truck that caused significant damage to the Corolla. The black pick-up was last scene traveling on Long Neck Road.

The damage to the Corolla caused rupture to the engine compartments with all types of fluids to drain on the roadway surface which was exasperated by the rainy conditions. A significant measure to mitigate the fluid recovery was coordinated by the emergency response personnel.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures with lane restriction for the duration of the incident.
