Saturday October 5, 2013 Nature: Fire Prevention & Fill-the-Boot Campaign Location: Super G Grocery Store Address: John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Saturday, October 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted a fire prevention public awareness and fill-the-boot campaign to enhance public awareness of the volunteer fire service in Delaware as well as promoting the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPAs) 2013 Fire Prevention Week theme; Prevent Kitchen Fires. Prevent Kitchen Fires. Cooking is the number one cause of home fires, and a significant contributor to home fires deaths. During the week of October 6-12, NFPA as well as many fire company related organizations will be highlighting the dangers of unattended cooking and risky kitchen habits. This Fire Prevention Public Awareness Initiative permitted the dissemination of fire safety and fire prevention publications for children. These materials included fire prevention coloring books and pamphlets, firefighter hats, and other related publications. The Fill-the-boot campaign accepted donations for the volunteer fire company operations and enhanced awareness that Delaware's fire service is 100% volunteer. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company wishes to acknowledge the generous contributions of these patrons as well as the tremendous outpouring of community support as well as the corporate partners that permitted this event to happen. |
