Nature: Structure Fire
Location: 28385 Cherokee Av., Millsboro, DE 19966
Early Wednesday, May 12th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) volunteer fire departments were alerted for a working structure fire with possible subjects trapped on Cherokee Avenue in Riverdale Park. Other emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the utility service provider, and the Delaware State Fire Marshall
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-3 and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included an initial primary and secondary search and activation of a fire suppression attack line to the interior of the structure. The initial fire was initially knocked down upon verification that all occupants were out of the structure, and evaluation for extension and overhaul commenced.
It appears that a remodel manufactured home residential structure was involved with fire upon arrival of emergency response personnel. It appears that the fire may have originated in a burn barrel on the exterior of the structure which ultimately spread via leaves to the residential structure.
Three occupants of the structure were transported to nearby medical facilities for observation.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist to the residential occupants.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated access control and traffic control to the incident.
The utility service provider was requested to the incident location to discontinue the utilities to the residence.
The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
