It appears that the silver Chrevrolet Trailblazer was traveling from eastbound John J. Williams Highway attempting to turn left onto Indian Mission Road and failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled into the path of a westbound Mack dump truck. Both units collided causing severe damage to the Trailblazer as well as the dump truck.

The Trailblazer was occupied by a female operator and two children. The dump truck was occupied by a male operator.

All occupants of the vehicles were taken to nearby medical facilities. The ground units transported the occupants of the Trailblazer and the aviation unit transported the occupant of the dump truck.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident which included closure of John J. Williams Highway.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Sep 26, 2013 -- 11:18am

Three people were injured in a crash involving a dump truck in Long Neck this morning.

Just after 8:50 this morning, 23-year-old Melissa Stumbaugh of Millsboro was driving east in her Chevy Trailblazer and was trying to turn left onto Indian Mission Road. Delaware State Police say she failed to yield to a westbound Mack dump truck being driven by 52-year-old Ellis Cannon of Bridgeville. The dump truck hit the passenger’s side of the Trailblazer in the intersection. Stumbaugh, her 2-year-old twin sons and Cannon were all taken to Beebe Hospital to be treated for injuries from the crash.

Stumbaugh was charged with failure to yield the right of way, and driving while on a cell phone.
