Saturday May, 1 2021 @ 02:08Nature: Structure FireLocation: Shrimpy's Pub – Henlopen Junction Commercial ComplexAddress: 37385 Henlopen Jctn, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971Early Saturday morning, May 1st, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) with a working commercial structure fire off Rehoboth Avenue Extended at the Henlopen Junction complex. Additional responses were requested from Bethany Beach (70), Georgetown (77), Milton (85), and Memorial (89) fire companies to provide assistance at the incident location. Additional EMS units which included Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were requested to scene for precautionary measures.Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.Emergency response crew assignments included manpower to the manpower pool for assistance with fire suppression assignments as well as exposure protection and assistance with obtaining a water supply for aerial operations and cooling of venting propane tanks.It appears that a fire consumed a large portion of the commercial structure (strip mall) complex on the east most end of the facility. Heavy fire and damage was reported upon arrival of the initial emergency response units.Other ancillary alerts included DELDOT for traffic control assistance, utility service providers – Delmarva Power, propane utility companies (Suburban Propane, Baker gas, and Schagrin Gas as well as the City of Rehoboth Beach Water Department). Many other mutual aid companies were requested to provide cover-up and standby assignments for the duration of the incident.The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated in the complete closure of Rehoboth Avenue Extended, in and out of town, and the Church Street intersection due to the apparatus staging, and large diameter hose accessing the nearby fire hydrants. Traffic patterns may be impacted as a result of the incident.The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office investigating.Additional information will be forthcoming.
